Scholarship Application

Purpose

David & Friends is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to promote and support higher education, youth programs, and expansion of community services organizations.” Each year David & Friends raises money to provide scholarships to graduating Charlotte Mecklenburg students with plans on attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). In each of the last few years, David & Friends has awarded seven $1500 scholarships. In 2026, David & Friends will award additional scholarships to well-deserving students who choose to further their education by attending an HBCU in Fall 2026. David & Friends recognizes that grades are just one factor in determining merit. We are looking for well-rounded students who could benefit from attending an HBCU.

Eligibility

Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:
1.Be a 2026 graduate of a Charlotte Mecklenburg High School.

2.Must have participated in at least 20 hours of community service during high school (i.e., tutoring, food bank, park clean up, volunteering at non-profit, nursing home, school, etc.).

3. Been accepted to the incoming 2026 class of an HBCU. (Provide evidence of acceptance, i.e., copy of acceptance letter, etc.)

Scholarship Awards

This is a one-time award. In past years the award has been $1500, This year’s amount is yet to be determined (fundraising ongoing). The awards will be sent directly to the recipient’s college or university. In order to process the scholarship checks, students will be asked to provide their college or university student identification number. The scholarship is non-renewable.

NOTE: Immediate family members of David & Friends are ineligible to apply.

Application Deadline

The application and all required materials must be submitted electronically on or before May 31, 2026.
